Lots of Documents? No Problem.

When faced with lots of documents, Redact-It will save you time. Record redaction performed on one document and easily apply to others. When you finalize (output redactions to a new TIFF or PDF file), Redact-It can automatically open and apply redactions to the next file in your folder. Less time spent doing tedious steps, more time for quality review and verification. We even make that easy.

  Text Search

Redact-It offers the ability to search for words or phrases, or a list of search terms. Redact-It is the only software that lets you highlight text while reading and automatically redact all instances of that text throughout the document.

Pattern Matching

Need to redact account numbers, ID numbers, or other unique elements? Just use regular expressions to create custom search patterns. Redact-It comes with built-in search for standard patterns like phone numbers, Social Security numbers and credit card numbers.

  Redact All Like This

Perhaps one of most powerful redaction methods in Redact-It Desktop is Redact Text. As you interactively select text in the document to redact, Redact-It automatically finds all other matches in the document and redacts those, too. Redacting has never been so easy!

Redact All But This…

Redact-It Desktop has the ability to redact all pages, a specified page range or just a page. Users can then un-redact (or deselect) specific areas on those pages with Redact-It's unique "Allow Area" feature. For pages with a lot of sensitive information, this provides users with great control of the information, allowing them to focus more on what can be seen, rather than what shouldn't.

  Redact Everything Between…

Redact-It offers more redaction options than any other tool available, including the ability to redact everything between two locations on the document. More than just redacting between brackets, Redact-It offers the ability to, say, redact a clause in a contract. Simply tell Redact-It to start at the beginning of the heading for the clause you want to redact and stop at the beginning of the clause heading that follows. Everything between the two will be redacted, even across page spans.

OCR TIFF and PDF

Scanned or otherwise "flat" documents won't slow you down with Redact-It. The OCR (Optical Character Recognition) option renders documents as text-searchable, creating a text layer over the document image. Redactions are applied to both the text layer and the image layer.

  What's Your Reason?

Assigning reasons, or exemption codes, is an important part of the redaction process. Reasons can be interactively authored (ad-hoc) or limited to a set of pre-defined exemptions (customizable). Use one of Redact-It's lists, like the US FOI and Privacy Act codes and EU Privacy codes, or create your own list. Pre-set reasons can have more detailed descriptions that will appear in reporting and logs. Redact-It also has an optional setting that requires every redaction to have reason. Reporting and logging capture what reasons were used in a document, where they were used and how many.

Redaction Reporting

Quickly create a Vaughn index, privilege log or FOIA release report detailing what was redacted in each document. Redact-It creates an individual report for each document, which can be compiled into a single CVS file by Redact-It Reports. This makes it ready to import into a Microsoft Excel document or Microsoft Word document via the Merge tool. Already in columnar format (with customizable field names/column headings), adding any additional needed information is simple.

Brava benefits   Verify Redactions

Redact-It steps reviewers through each redaction area so they can verify that each hit is correctly redacted and to examine each one in context. Redactions can be filtered by color or redaction reason. For highly sensitive documents, use the Document Review feature to review the entire document in a limited view, creating a log entry upon completion.

Collaborative Review

Redact-It is a great review tool, too. It offers threaded discussions and the ability to mark the state of the conversation (like "Investigate" or "Completed").
It allows multiple reviewers to contribute to the conversation, with each reply recording their username and the date and time. Comments are stored in a separate XML file, leaving the original document untouched.

  Review Draft

When others need to review redactions assigned before they are actually performed, a redaction draft (in PDF) can be created for this purpose. Each redaction can be reviewed along with the reason assigned to that redaction.

Audit Logs

Redact-It offers a complete audit log, which details what redaction searches were performed, what was found and redacted, whether a complete document verification was performed and the total time spent on the document. It can also create a summary log, detailing what redactions were performed, what pages have which redactions, and the reason descriptions for any standard exemptions.

  Bates, Watermarks, and Stamps

Redact-It can add watermarks, margin banners, image stamps and Bates number to the finalized output. Note the document as a draft or final copy or include a copyright or legal notice. You can also insert an image stamp, indicating the document was reviewed or approved for example.

Not just covered, but removed!

Redact-It removes all redacted information in the redaction process without any danger of overwriting the original file. Redact-It creates a new redacted version of the document as PDF or TIFF. When outputting to PDF, original documents that are text searchable will remain text searchable (less the redacted information) in the redacted version.
