Redact-It Desktop

Redact-It Desktop is an easy-to-use desktop application that helps you quickly remove sensitive content and privacy information from documents—including PDFs, office documents and scanned images. It creates a new PDF or TIFF rendition of the redacted file, leaving the source file untouched.

As you work, Redact-It Desktop will create an audit log to show all steps taken during the redaction process, proving due diligence. It can also create a redaction log that can be imported into larger reports, like a privilege log or Vaughn index.

Whatever type of data you need to redact, Redact-It enables you to do it quickly and accurately.

Redact area, pages, all text like this, text patterns, between text headings, and more...

Record how you redact one document into script and easily apply to other documents.

As you redact you can apply a reason by typing it in or choosing from a pre-defined list (eg. your created list or standards like USA FOIA exemptions).
Redaction workflows commonly require verification to ensure redactions and reasons are correct and nothing was missed.

Redact-It Desktop makes it easy.

Users can step through each redaction making any correction required, or review redactions by reasons or color. Verify document enables a step wise inspection of the entire document to ensure nothing was overlooked.

When multiple people are reviewing redactions, each can comment and discuss whether individual redactions are appropriate and indicate a status as such.
Once the redactions are marked and verified, the user can finalize to create a new redacted PDF, TIFF, or secure CSF file containing none of the redacted content.

Unredacted content in PDFs and CSFs will still be searchable, but the redacted content is fully removed.

Metadata from the original document is never transferred to the redacted version.

Redact-It Desktop creates a new redacted version, never accidentally overwriting the original file.
Report logs provide information about reasons used with descriptions, file dates, bates numbered applied, etc. These can be processed by Redact-It Reports (link) to help create privilege, Vaughn index and FOIA reports.

Audit logs can record all redaction steps taken by the user along with time spent.

Summary logs provide a summary of what redactions where used and on what pages.
